Chinese New Year 2012 Year of
the Dragon Find out what your animal is by entering your date of birth: The Chinese horoscopes are based upon a 12 year calendrical cycle, each year representing an animal. The year you where born on determines what animal sign you are. The twelve animals in the cycle came about when Buddha invited animals to join him to celebrate new year (other version say that the day was actually the day in which Buddha left the Earth). Only twelve animals came, so Buddha promised to name a year in honour of each animal in order in which they came to him. The order in which they came was: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep (or Goat), Monkey, Cock, Dog and Pig. The Ox nearly arrived but because the rat had climb its back for a lift and jumped off near Buddha thus arriving first, the rat became the first animal. The Boar came last as it was lazy getting started. |
